Where Are Those Hatchimals?
Recently my grand daughter Coral turned nine, and received some $20 in birthday gifts. She carefully tucked her new-found “fortune” away in her purse, waiting for the day she could trade her cash for a treasure she had been wanting for some time.
This morning on the way home from church the family passed a homeless man begging on the street corner. “Daddy”, Coral suddenly exclaimed, ” I want to give that man $5 of my birthday money.” “Are you sure?” Daddy responded”. “Absolutely”, Coral replied. “I don’t think I had enough to get those hatchimals I wanted anyway!” When Grandma heard the story later in the day, she promptly exclaimed, “Where are those hatchimals?!?!”
It reminds me of a verse found in Luke chapter 6, “Give, and it will be given to you; a good measure-pressed down, shaken together, and running over….” When we share generously, sacrificially, like a child moved to action by a genuine need, it thrills the heart of God. I can just imagine the Heavenly Father responding to the unselfish act of an obedient child by explaining, “Where are those hatchimals?”
